building a indoor pond 8ftx5ftx6ft

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For the window that will be removed later can you not build it so there is a channel (tightly fitted with a rubber gasket on both sides might work) to slide it in with a detachable top brace, so that once the extention is built and filled with water the window can just slide strait up. It can then be replaced if needed to do any repairs to either side of the tank or if you need to separate anything for any reason.

If you go with the one big piece of glass idea for across the front. make sure to leave yourself a way to remove the glass. Silicone is some strong stuff.

Yeah thats what bothers me pharaoh, i know how tough it would be to remove the silicone especially under water with fish nipping at my feet hehe

1 slight prob in that idea matey, i wont have the height to lift such a large piece of glass from the gap as there is roof struts above where the pond will be but on saying that i could, instead of having 1 large bit, have 2, create a T piece brace for the end have the top of the T across the top as a support and the down line directly in the middle, use ur idea but have the windows slightly overlapped so they can slide sideways not up ;)

Great ideas guys all this has me and marks brain going crazy, were nearly there marko, need to get some materials in to start forming the base of this pond.

Ok heres the plan, im going with a few ideas from u guys for the divider for the extension. Build the 1st pond without the side wall, go with satans idea but only have the divider 3ft high, this will enable the glass/plastic/wood to slide straight out from the top. Also go with Ratt45thinf's idea of a rubber baffle tight enough to hold the 3ft of water that will be in the pond, We are now tring to figure out how the baffle will be removed, like i said there cant be any holes at all so this is the next think to concentrate on. The only reason it is being built this way is because i have a huge tank running sideways in the room im using so as soon as the 1st pond is built and the tank is moved then the 2nd phase will come into play. I also need to think up a canopy for the whole thing, such hard work all this thinking

How about 2 3' dividers one on top of the other to make your 6' and make a water tight join in the middle (somehow!) Once the upper one is lifted out when the extension is done you then just have to slide the lower one out in the same manner.

also, if you fill the extension up slightly higher than the first build then the water pressure should help push out the divider if it's just being held in by water pressure from the first bit of the build.

Plan is to build it 6ft high but start with 3ft panel not sure on width yet going to get some blocks and work it out physically. Then move other tanks then build extension then up to 6ft. Will wood wrapped in pond liner and bit silicone be ok for first 3ft

Don't see why not, my pond build is going to be liner in wood, just make sure it's really well sealed.

Build just 3ft until extension built makes sense. Still plenty of swimming foot print for the big cats.

what is the purpose of the glass on the temporary side? does it have to be there for visibility or is it just the fact that your thinking it would be easier to remove. if its the latter you could try just a piece of wood. the wood would be cheaper and you could just build the entire pond with the temporary side attached. then build the add on. water proof everything. then just remove the wood wall. saves ya money on glass and may be easier in the long run.

yeah plan is to build it up 6ft but only have temporary side up 3 of 4ft while tanks are moved and rest is built. there is roof joist which would make it dificuilt to take something 6ft long up and out of pond. would wrapped in pond liner then sealed seems to be the best idea
