Was going to go glass for the windows but the expense scared the hole in my pocket shut ;) so im deciding to go acrylic unless i find cheaper lighter glass. The drawing will come when it is getting built dude, actuall pics speak louder than drawings, ive had some crazy ideas over the past year on how to do this properly and i think we might have just cracked it. Bore away with the filteration m8, thats what is on my mind as i write this, i dont want to drill holes in this baby as there isnt much room to play with, i do however have a nice corner at 1 end and vice vercer at the other say 2x2' of space to play with, and im thinking overboard on the filteration front

I hear you on the not wanting to drill it!

Options then are an in tank pump or 2 at the bottom somewhere going up to some big filter boxes mounted above the tank if you have enough head room for it. Obviously a big mechanical box first then some bio boxes. B&Q normally has a good selection of giant plastic water tight storage boxes which is a much much cheaper alternative than buying a ready made filter!

Your other option if you wanna try something a little different could be keeping it all in the tank (try and keep up here with this one, you're about to experience a disturbed mind.) At the moment there's only 2 mid level swimming fish to go in there, everything else will be loitering at the bottom. If you could find a way of supporting the big boxes from B&Q at the same level as the top of the water you could have an intake at one end of a chain of boxes going through the relevent stages of media and the pump at the far end of it returning water to the tank so water is being pulled through the filter rather than pushed. Pic kind of illustrates it, the box at the back has the mech filter with the pump pulling the water through then sending it to the bio filter. With the way yours would be the pump would be at the end pulling water through all stages (Much bigger boxes are available than i'm using here!) Brilliant for hiding heaters too. This is also assuming your windows are going to be quite low down the water level as you have mostly cat fish in there.

Just for a price comparison, the filtration system i've pictured cost about £60 not including the pump, the equivalent sized gravity fed box filter from my lfs would have been £250 and didn't have as much bio stage.

Ok now satan ur starting to scare me ;) but i like the idea, still trying to understand it though, i would think i little research of my own wil answer all of what u said though. The 2x2 space i had mentioned is the space i put aside for the filter's, there will be room around them for maintenance. Marko me and u is most prob gonna be the 1nes building this so if anything goes wrong and i mean anything, atleast i got some1 to blame for my mistakes :naughty:

Cool. Don't think i've ever been to Newcastle. Might be able to fit a big 220ltr water tight blue barrel in each of those 2x2 spaces and run it like a pair of giant canister filters. Never tried building one of those though so wouldn't know where to start. I'm doing sod all in work right now so i'll try and draw something up for the in-tank one for ya.

I think i'll have to finish mine before coming up to help tho as Mrs Satan would probably give me an ass whooping if i did that.

Not a prob dude so point me in the direction of urs so i can have a gander, i might learn something ;)

Ive just been in the garage where this pond is going and to make it 14x6x6, well lets just say the sledge hammer might have to pay a visit to a few obstacles. Is just the width that has me atm as there isnt much of it (yet) :naughty:

Also the filteration on this thing is going to have to be something real special as we are talking nearly 4000g of water. I also need a canopy, i was thinking of locking it tight with a hatch over each section, u know a bit like the lost series (u never know what happens under that hatch until u enter) obviously the whole thing would have to be'able to move, just incase.
