Hi started building a shark/stingray pond inside a shed
will be a small 1 compared to the one i will build in the new shed i buy
this one is 3 metre long 58cm width 65cm high a L shape so other side of it's is 180cm long 80 cm width i am almost done most likely tomorrow if i lay the last few stones got some old pics of it from few days back made more progress on it so tomorrow i fnish the highed of it 65 cm then going to concrete the inside with hydroconcrete and cement to make it smooth at the edges rounder as for filters i had in mind 4 buckets filled with bio balls, sand, filter matts and last one will be with a return to a large skimmer
also a heater will be placed in here then return to the pond and extra barrel for extra salwater or if any better ideas for filter always in foadvise on this i added some photo's from fews day ago will take more tomorrow when finish laying the bricks before i start concrete sealer and the pond sealer :nilly:

Ok - not sure which species you considering keeping in it. The narrow width will limit you ro basically a grow out pond.

A good marine epoxy sealer(to prevent leaks, and keep it safe for sharks & rays) will be a must. Either that or a good fish safe pond liner.

Btw - wouldn't recommend using Bio-balls(not good with Nitrogen removal), instead you should have either a Live Rock Sump, a Sand Filter, or a Refugium is an alternative.

Yeah this pond will be just so they can grow a bit in while i build a much bigger 1 :nilly:
Bought an pond sealer what won't harm koi but didn't say anything about marinewater would that be bad? this prevent from leaks to was thinking of 3 layers instead the 2 they recommend
or just better of sealing it with marine epoxy sealer?
and was thinking those barrels connect to a sump i got with live rock yeah and proteinskimmer to return it back in pond
just went outside and is damn hot so will go futher later in the day when it cools down a bit

Ya that is pretty skinny but yes it does seem lik a good idea. GL keep us updated

Hi just went to bunning where i bought the pond sealer and asked about saltwater in it he said it will eat the sealer not sure if he knows it but says it's only for freshwater so i asked if they have marine epoxy sealer they don't went to petshop closeby they don't neither so will be calling some marine stores tomorrow and look it up on internet tonite for it
Or if any 1 knows where i can get Marine Epoxy Sealer in perth will help me allot

PS wanted a port jackson sharks and stingrays and some other species of sharks with it any suggestions what i can keep with the pjs & rays ?
ps next pond will be 5 metre bij 3 width and 1 metre deep or even bigger depends on shed but that will be for sure those sizes or bigger or a pond 5m round maybe easier to do and cheaper so i can spend more on a good sump for it or used the one i build now and connect that to it :D

We wanne to go futher and finish laying the bricks but it's to hot today so will see if we can finish the stones tomorrow
The Concrete/cement i will use to also make it waterproof hydrocrete
will this works and the marine epoxy over it ?

some extra pics on how far it is now will be 65cm high so leave some space for all the sealing and not full it to the top neihter

Hi added pics of the stoned finish
Got a question about sealing it with marine epoxy sealer
would i still do the hydro concrete sealer on it or would the epoxy sealer be enough to seal it all????
don't want it to leak or just do both :nilly:

Hi learned that pond sealer won't work on saltwater?
also wanted to use hydrocrete to put extra layer on it before the pond sealer but got advised on marine proxy sealer
my question now is what is the best way to seal it for saltwater what don't harm my sharks and stingrays?

at this time wanne go for hydroconcrete and marine epoxy sealer
or would only the marine epoxy sealer be enough
as this is my first pond build
and using same techniek on the much larger shark pond later on
as i'm planning to build a few more ponds for sharks and koi's smaller for goldfish and maybe a freshwater heated :nilly:

hopefull get some suggestions soon wanne finish it soon
allot of thanks to the ppl that helped me out already:headbang2

Check out aquaticeco.com for good sealers in a salt water application. They have a couple different brands that work well.
As for sharks, the Port Jackson does best at cooler temps, so you'll want to chill the water to between 65-70 degrees. I'd suggest coral cat sharks and cortez rays for a small pond with warmer temps.

Yeah, I'll tend to agree with Matt. That pond would be better suited for Coral Cats & Cortez Rays. Also Australian Marbled Cats (Atelomycterus macleayi) would make a nice alternative to the Coral Cats.

As for the pond - you can still use a good fish safe pond liner. Just the one's used for Koi ponds.
