Building more acrylic tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hahah, I know. thats what I said when I looked at it. But it wont bow once we have the top on and we bond the top of the tank on.

this is the smaller tank we are building, its the 70x24x16.

Also, this tank is the tank that will have acrylic dividers built into it. ( tank # 3, the top tank )

...yes is will. Lexan (especially so thin) will inevitably flex. I would not recommend heating that tank above 85. Are you selling these or are they for personal use? I dont think it will bow at the top, like you said because of bracing, but it may have a concaving effect after a matter of months at +room temp. It will have 1,100 lbs of water in it, plus substrate/filters/fish

It may even just crack under such pressure

I have a commercially made 8x2x2.5' tank that is 1/2" acrylic. It does bow a little but it's fine. It's 86 degrees for my rays.

Thank you, We know what we are doing when it comes to tanks that are under 3ft. ABove 3ft we have no experience with, this tank wont bow, and if it does it will bow barley. This tank will be going ontop of my rack, and is custom built to rack perfectly, we will be building a little plywood around the outside of the tank, and will coat it with a black sheet, or leather, havent decided yet.

I've made another tank just like this but a lil smaller, and it hasent bowed at all.

My room is at about 68-75 degree, and the water will be at around 80-84.

It wont, I promise that. Theres always some people in mfk, who have their doubts. But My first tank has been up for 8months now, and its still doing amazing, its just a lil dirty :).
3/8" acrylic, With the 2 celients we use, it bonds together and gives it extra support.
