that will work fine just make sure your pump is 300 gph or less
if you need to move more water than that you will need to buy one of the bigger models

its a 295 gph maxi-jet... i have two of them so i was thinking about hooking both of them up and getting a 600 gph overflow...

I would not use a powerhead they are not designed for that kind of duty
I would use a punp
I have a mag 7 on my reef sump and a mag 12 on my FW wet and dry
There are many others that work well also

Maxijets and almost any powerhead will quit out anywhere from 2-3 feet of head. You are going to need a "real pump", not a powerhead.

I would suggest a viaaqua 2300 or 2600.

i posted a thread in the buy/sell forum for an overflow and ill get one of those pumps based on what size overflow i get

ok i made a rough design:

scrubber design.jpg

The circle is the spray bar onto the screen which is right below that... you can probably tell which ones the lights are...

the black lines are glass siliconed on

the light grey is coarse filter pad

the darker grey with white on it is fine pad

the yellow is a sand bed

the green is macro algae

and the black square is the return pump...

what do you guys think?

bump... and i ordered a via aqua 2600 on Drs. Foster and Smith but they couldnt process my order so im about to email them about that... what do you guys think of the design i posted? look good?

Ok, first though is that the light gray fine pad and the dark grey pad will both in essence be under water, in fact it will all be submerges...... If you'll look, you can see that the water level is forces to rise up to the point to trickle over each time thus making it the minimum depth.
