Building my algae scrubber system

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i know i dont but its helpful so im gonna have a little of each. im might not even have the macro and just have the sandbed cuz the scrubber is supposed to leave all the nutrients in the tank and your supposedly not supposed to need any macro algae

also I would not have any mechanical filtration in your sump if you are going to have corals, first they will be nitrate sponges and second corals are filter feeders.

there is no sponge

Here is a nice simple sump design. This is what I used on my 90 gallon reef tank. I used a 29 gallon tank but you can modify it for the tank you want to use. The bubble trap at the end is pretty important otherwise micro bubbles are going to drive you nuts!

Here it is when I built it.

Here it is after it had been in operation for a while.

im gonna add in a bubble trap and once i get it all siliconed together ill take some pics... i got about half of it done right now and am too lazy to finish it tonight but who knows... its only 8:20... i could end up finishing it

EDIT: you gotta remember, im not building a sump, im building an algae scrubber, so its hard to put all these things in. im gonna have a bubble trap but its gonna be only like 4 inches tall like the rest of the stuff in there. i dont have much room in a 10 gal so im making the most out of it.
