Bulging Cloudy Eye

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
All other tanks; a 55 gallon, 40 gallon, & 300 Gallon all have fish with 0 issues in them. All the other fish in with this one seem fine also.

One fish in a fish room does not get a cloudy eye because of water parameters. You've figured out the cause by the sound of it, and now just need to keep the water clean over the next week or so to give it the best chance to heal. I'd quarantine the fish if you have that option. Beyond that, your water quality maintenance sounds spot on and I wouldn't mess with it.

After discussing this thread with Aquanero via PM, in the interest of accurate reference material regarding water parameters for Cichla, I/we've agreed to repost a few of the links that he originally deleted when things got heated between myself and another forum member. If you have a Cichla with the same problem as the OP, please consider the pH recommended in these links and a reasonable range around them as safe before attempting to alter your water chemistry.

Dean, your post on pH is good reference perhaps you should also post it on the pH thread tomka123 started. That way it can be found in future search.

From what I understand cichla can live healthy in a wide range in ph's. That is also portrayed in those links. The ph needs to be stable tho in order to maintain that healthy enviorment.

imo this looks like pop eye caused by injury as already discussed water quality and maintenece or good maybe add some salt and monitor the suze of the eye if doesn't reduce in size and cloudiness the it may burst and become infected also add some maracyn I or II can't remember which treats popeye keep us updated and good luck with this

I did another 20% water change, added a good amount of salt, and tested my water at the end of work before I left. PH-6.8, Amm- 0 Nitrite- 0 Nitrate-0. The little guy is acting good & eating good. I just got to wait it out & hope for healing.

Those are perfect water params....keep it up and im sure it'll heal in no time.
