Bulkhead frustrations suggestions please

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if it doesn't run properly im going to cry ! It has taken me over a month to get it all set up . its my first time actually plumbing anything so I hope it really works !

The rubber gasket always needs to be on the inside of the tank (wet), and bulkheads need to be placed so that the majority of thread ends up outside.

That's not necessarily true. I run all of my bulkheads with the gasket on the outside and the nut on the inside. They work just fine as long as the gasket is on the flange and not the nut.

so I am facing the grim task of filling the tank and hooking the rest of the setup up.

Lol, I've been waiting weeks for my 3d background to come in so I can silicon it into my 240 that's sitting empty in my living room so I can fill it up and finish my set up. While its not the same anticipation as having a child or winning the lottery... I'm pretty anxious and excited to get to the point of being able to put some water in it... Just saying :)

I agree with Mudbuttjones (like usual). Gasket does not need to be on the wet side, it works just as well on the dry side. The important thing is the the gasket is on the side with the flange, the head of the bulkhead. If the flange and gasket are on one side of the glass and nut is on the other it can be installed in any direction.

Silicone and lubricants are not necessary and may cause additional issues further down the road such as the bulkhead slipping.

It Will work both ways. But the gasket on the wet side is more practical. You have water force aiding your seal instead of fighting it.
