Hello everyone,

I am going to drill my first tank. Can you please give suggestions on which bulkheads are the best to get? How much should I expect to pay for them? Where should I look to buy them?

Thank you

There are many to choose from. Some of the cheaper ones on Amazon will get the job done easily. Some prefer to use schedule 80 etc... It all depends upon how you intend to use them. Will there be much weight on the bulkhead fitting?

There are to many variables to get a straight answer. Acrylic or glass? How much flow? Overflow box or open bulkhead? How are you going to support the piping for starters

900 gph is what my pump will be putting out. Not sure on the support. Never realky thought about that.

Sump. Open bulk. (I think) drops out into the sump. Return directly to tank/bulkhead

Can you give me ideas either way? I have no starting point.

For 900gph I would go with a 1.5 inch sch40 bulkhead about 3.5 inches in from the edge and 4 inches down (center of bulkhead and 1.5 is bigger then is needed) with a 90 degree elbow inside the tank that is not glued so you can adjust the elbow for your water height. As for return I think a 3/4 or 1 inch would be fine just take your pump to the hardware store with you and whatever npt thread fits on it that's the return size I use and put the bulkhead close to the top of the tank so it doesn't back syphon and put a check valve in line. Some people will suggest union fittings but I always figure for the price of them I can throw all my hard plumbing out and redo it. Are you building a sump or buying it?

Thx millerkid.

I will build a sump. I forgot to say....this is for fresh water. I may go with a 5 gallong bucket in a tote diy joey style at 1st. Then/or i may try a 40 gal or 55 gallon tank style.

Still trying to work it all out.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated. Links etc. thx

buy a cheap glass tank to make into a sump. Buy a cheap plastic storage drawer to set in it and make a trickle tower
