i seen a lot of bullheads out in a local pond, how good do they generally do in aquariums? are they aggressive? are they hardy and how large do they grow? thanks in advance

search the coldwater forums there is a alot of info on them, alot of people keep them in aquariums but goodluck keeping plants with them haha

The only thing is most catfish out grow the tank too fast to the point were they just site around lazily. It gets to the point were other tankmates arent safe. Unless there in solo tanks or with other cats then they can be cool. But its your fish and dont let me or other people Bring you down and chose for you :)

Thanks. I planed to put it in with a piranha was hoping It would be able to defend its self and hopefully not get too large

Your piranha is going to enjoy catfish for lunch. Its tasty!

^actually I wouldn't think so. He could build a cave for the catfish (a snug cave) I think he could pull it off since the bull head would mostly come out at night to feed in the beginning. The rbp will try but eventually give up when he comes out in the day to. May sound like a long shot but could work.

Bullheads are very hardy... that's how they live in all kinds of nasty polluted north american waters (the rowboat lake in Central park, for one). Supposedly they can survive a farm pond freeze-over by burrowing in the mud.

If he is keeping a solitary piranha type, it will not give up :) Even a single red belly, unless well fed, could and probably would "find a way". They always do. :)
