bullheads

^actually I wouldn't think so. He the op building a cave for the catfish (a snug cave) I think he could pull it off since the bull head would mostly come out at night to feed in the beginning. The rbp will try but eventually give up when he comes out in the day to

Actually you are wrong, there is a risk that a bullhead may get eaten or killed by a piranha even if its a solo RBP as the new bullhead (especially adult bullheads) may not use the snug cave on first night. Bullheads do come out in the daylight in both wild and capitive. Personally I won't house anything with piranhas beside very small fish or heavily armoured catfish.

To OP, do not get a bullhead as a tankmate for your piranha.

If he is keeping a solitary piranha type, it will not give up :) Even a single red belly, unless well fed, could and probably would "find a way". They always do. :)
Even common plecos and highly aggressive cichlids are not safe with a single red belly. Ive heard stories about the cichlids often dominated the piranhas for awhile till the lockjaw match...let's say the cichlid no longer use the lockjaw after that match with a piranha.

Bullheads also have venomous spines I believe do knowwhat might happen if rbp eat him. I have 2 of them in my pond with koi they are active all day and are gentle unless they can eat the other fish

rbp or other type of p will simply take chunks out of said catfish. I remember i had a pleco one with my rbps. one day i noticed he was not moving from under a rock. So i moved him. It was only his head sticking out from under the rock, including his top spine. the rest of him was gone!

Piranhas eat catfish in the wild all time, included armoured ones. Also bullheads have weak venom and the natural predators dont have any problems eating bullheads (both adults and young ones).

Just give it some time and the catfish's luck runs out.
