That's exactly how he looks like!! Minus the tail wagging and all the fancy swimming techniques!

I'd post a video or at least some pics after he settles down hopefully before a month from now.
Would dithers help? If so, which ones would you recommend?

I honestly couldnt tell you I mean this fish was a serious drama queen. I had dithers (giant danios) for a few weeks. They stayed on one side of the tank and he stayed on the other. I tried allnsorts of things. I eventually got rid of the dithers and shortly after he came around though I doubt the dithers had anything to do with it. I think it was just time. I used blue painters tape over the lights to dim them. Wouldnt make sudden movements in front of the tank...the fish was just a mess would freak out over the littlest thing and bounce around the tank tearing himself up. I would end up having to do wc every day to heal him up... it got to the point that thought he was hopeless then bam turned into a maniac over night. Chases us from one end of the tank to the other and smacks the glass if tou get too close.

Thanks jaws!! You've given me some assurance and peace of mind. Well I guess it's a waiting game til he decides to get comfy.
Didn't actually think it would come to this since he flared at me and tried to charge right ahead when i checked him out at our LFS...

Oscars often take time to settle. I wonder if just tossing him from the bag has shocked him a bit. Different water parameters or temperature? Watch the Convict for aggression issues, they are notorious for picking on weak or frightened fish, bigger or not.

It's not very unusual for oscars to sulk when being introduced to a new tank. Besides, your fish isn't a regular tiger oscar, it is a different species (A. Orbicularus) and is most likely wild caught. So I wouldn't expect the same behavior as a regular tiger oscar.

Suprd71 actually was one of the guys telling me all of the stuff im now telling you. But all of the drama will be worth it great fish.

Here's a pic of him playing dead during a wc....wish his yellow bars would stay like that... guess ill have to wait till he matures to find out

@jaws: That's a good looking oscar you got right there!! If mine ends up even a tiny bit close to yours, I'd be happy.

Now i get that it's a matter of time til he gets confident and comfortable and you mentioned that yours took a month. Does that mean he won't feed for a month? How did you get him to eat during his initial emo days?

Leave him alone and he will come around not unusual for an Oscar to sulk for a week or more.

Yep, I second that. In all my years of fish keeping, I've only experienced 4 fish that seem like they are actually sulking....discus, clown loaches, puffers, and the biggest drama queens of all were oscars. LOL. Give him time

Like jaws mention my wild bb Oscar did the same thing. Its taken him 3 weeks to come around and finally acting like a Oscar. Mine would hide in caves and not come out. I know Oscars love to eat so once he hear the others eating he come out slowly and grab and swim away.

Right now my main concern is feeding my oscar. I don't mind waiting 3 or 4 weeks for him to emerge from his shell but I'm hoping to get him to eat along the way.. He has a calico convict as his tankmate and when I feed the con, the oscar doesn't take interest.. How should I feed him?
