recently suffered a split base on my 8x3x2' tank, frame - base is suspect as it is basically 3x 4 pillars of concrete blocks with 20 inches between, 10mm ply then 25mm poly and the tank was built from 12mm on site.

as a result i need to fix the tank or replace it some how making the existing base water tight. the tank cannot be moved about as it was built on site into an 8x3 gap.

thought so far include lifting tank if poss and addressing base isssue

strip down and rebuild on secure base

strip and rebuild concrete block tank with glass pane using existing glass

sugestions appreciated

nothing nice about it lol, had just bought 12 discus to go into the tank, it has been there 4 years and is the feature tank in my hut lol, burst tanks dont = funny in my book

nothing yet, having a idea sesh on sunday, i personally think i could remove the tank and rebuild with block concrete cheeper than i could repair, this would also allow me to go a bit bigger but would have the same 8x2 or less viewing window, thinking 8x4x2.5' gona be final internal dimensions, built using concrete blocks using concrete lintels across the front to help my brickie skills and keep it straight, have block foundation built up with hardcore then given a slab of concrete as the tank base, once frame made i thought about a stainless steel frame around the window perimeter to make a better seal

You are right about that. I had a 240 pop from a dumn drunk ass freind of mine falling and knocking my hutch at the time right on top of it. Good thing it was the basement looks like a lot less water in the tank thats for sure. Leaking and broke tanks allways sucks sorry man. I think you are on the right track with building a cement tank using the glass for a viewing window if you own the house seems like you must if you had the other one built in. Just remember to reinforce the concrete with rebar. And coat the inside with some thing. Tons of articles on here and other places these days for suck builds and im sure you have allready done tons of that kinda home work. Good luck and post some pics of the build for sure.

never managed the brain storming sesh as i took a double time overtime shift at work which will help pay for what ever im going to do lol. Iv looked at a few idea's from here but nothing is really similar, i was planning to use solid concrete blocks 7.3n strength for the foundation base and the walls of the tank but no have a few doubts over shape rigity and overall integrity due to the water pressure, iv looked at a few koi pond builds but not sure if temp affects morter etc as i may wih to keep discus etc which like it hot.

Iv looked at a few different sealing methods, bare block or rendering then painting with either G4 pond paint, or aquacote (epoxy) as fiberglas is out the question due to the existing tanks and fumes.
