The thing that a lot of people don't get though.. is that no matter how good your advertising is, if the product sucks... it sucks.
Here are some suggestions (from a college student triple majoring in business):
1. Unless you are shipping the plants in bulk, you won't make any money. The premium you can charge has to be smaller than Petco etc, and yet you still have to deal with shipping costs.
2. Because most people don't buy plastic plants in bulk, maybe try selling large plastic plants or plastic plants that can connect to driftwood (using string) or can float; this is MFK, lots of people have large tanks and most plastic plants that are sold are for 20 gallon tanks

yes well in that class we also learned how you have to target your consumers and see what they are interested in while making a unique product that stands out from the competetors because if u have something that somebody can buy anywhere then why try and make money , when instead u can create a unique product that nobody else offers and u can make lots of money because you are the only seller of that productThe thing that a lot of people don't get though.. is that no matter how good your advertising is, if the product sucks... it sucks.

yeah, until your product comes out and 6 other people make different and better versions of it.
There's really not much that hasn't been done in the fish hobby.. and recreation isn't likely to make good business, as there would be no profit because you would have to compete with pricing.
I say feel the field a bit.. maybe even for a few years.. accumulate your ideas, and see which things are still around when you're 16, 17 and so on. Then go to school for accounting, and business management, and you're good to go.
sorry i derailed this kids thread , and yes you are right mhill90 im not looking into bussiness and stuff just saying what i had learned , there is no real money in home fish keepin unless you are umbeeking who got hella for his festae but he uses the money to probably pay for collection trips so reallyy there is not much money in fishkeeping unless you breed a hard to find fish
Go on eBay and see what plastic aquarium plants are selling for. Unless you can sell for less, you are not going to succeed. Lots of cheap stuff coming out of China.

With all due respect, I disagreed due to the fact that all the stuff coming out of china is not unique and is not a brand... If I have a unique product and create a brand for myself I can do well.These people on ebay from China are not reputable and nobody really knows the products or the company they are buying from. Plus a lot of it involves the advertising campaign, as long as I have a successful quality product that is at a fair price and have the right advertisement I will leave the starting gate of my endeavor just fine.
I'm getting ready to place my first order for around 300-500 plants....If anybody has any questions or wants any of these plants or anything of that nature feel free to send me a message.

So the plants that you're buying... instead of China, what... are they made in Malaysia instead?
