Butterkoferi

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey man I have a 100 gallon tank with two butterkoferis a Texas cichlid, a jaguar, and a Dempsey, I also have a pleco. From what I've experienced, pretty much as long as there's somewhere for the fish to hide or just a good amount of space for the fish to swim away.. they all thrive pretty good together. I think you'd be good with a 90, if your adding the butterkoferi in with an already established tank, then I'd definitely recommend getting the fishes about the same size of a little but bigger then what you have. I wasn't able to see what fish you have or want along with the butterkoferis.. I was lazy sorry lol, but I'd keep it in the south American range. As long as the pleco is a decent size, it'll hold its own. Good luck though dude I hope it all goes well!

about a year ago i purchased 6 small butti's and about a month ago 2 finally paired off, the male went crazy and i had to get rid of the other 4, unfortunatly when i got rid of the other 4 the famale went crazy on him, he wasnt tough enough i had to get him outta there too, i put the male in a different tank just to give him some confidence, and he is doing well, but im gonna wait about another year and see if i can introduce him to her again, i have observed the behavior of Butti's the two i have are 7 inches long, and they can really fight, but they can also be cowards with certain fish, my green terror's do anything they want with them, the famle butti is scared crapless of the famale GT who is about 4 inches long and the male who is about 7 inches long, but she will kick the crap out of my Male Texas cichlid with the quickness byt the way both GT's are scared of the Texas C., My jack Dempsey and the female butti had a big fight and she really kicked his butt, but he was relentless even thought he was getting the tar kicked out of him by her he never quit, she gave up now he chases her around when he feels like, it, i have notice that Butti's will give up they dont have the heart to continue if its a fish they are evenly matched up with. Now these fish are only 7 inches long so things may change, but when i see the threads about how tough butti's are from my personal experience that had 6 for a year they can fight(and are very aggressive with each other) but they are not nearly the aggressive fish everyone says they are. after all is done, they are a very nice fish to own and they are my favorites, and im happy i have them, i hope i can get the male and female together in the future.

Ive noticed that if u dont grow them up with each other u will have to crowed them a little, I have a 16inch and a 10 inch together in my 200gal but theres a red devil and some other fish. I had a friend who bought a butta at 1inch nd 4 texas cichlids at 3inches, 3 months later the butta was 6inches and had all the texas cichlids ina corner, so theyre pretty mean the butta eventually killed all the texas cichlids. it was a 55gal so it was WAY to small of a tankl but he wouldnt listen to me cause "he knows wat he is doing" haha

I have kept all those that you want to keep together. Even smaller than a red devil, a butti will be able to stand its ground. However, this is only for a limited amount of time. My butti has retreated by the 3rd day. Red devil is 8" while butti is about 6.5". I only have the butti now with other cichlids in a 250 gallon tank. The butti does not mind the pleco or the catfish at all. Be careful though since you plan on having not only one on a 90g tank, you may unfortunately pick up one with a bad temperament and a taste for chasing those two. These are large cichlids, too, so I suggest to limit the number of what you will be getting to 2 max.

Add a flowehorn or other cichlids and you will have a royal rumble! But not till death, I hope not ^^

I used to have 2 buttis, 2 red devils, 1 flowerhorn all in one 60G(long). It was really fun watching them establish their hierarchy. The red devils in the end dominate one side where they decided to bred. But overall, my fh was the boss man!

You could probably get away with some mbuna, or a jewel. Its working for me...so far...just nothing similar in size that could be considered a rival
