i bring up tank size when the OP does not mention tank size intentions, ussualy they have a 55g, and say I just got to new baby oscars for my 55g, they are acting shy, and what do you all suggest I feed them. now if they had started with I got 2 new baby oscar to grow out in my 55 and will be moving them to a 125 or 180, tank size would never come up with me. i may ask if tanks cycled, but i would not question the tank size.

bottom line, we can only go by what the op posts, and try to interpret by what we read. The way and what is said by the op is a good indicator of whether they really know what they are in for.

If someone could be driven away from this site because they were told there tank is too small then i feel sorry for them. Wealth of info they would be passing up.
Maybe a few posters dont need that advise but cmon we all know countless others do. If i had this advise years ago it would have save allot of fish

i have followed this thread for a while and this sprang to my mind too, if i had brought the tank for my goonch first then it would be a pretty empty 1200G tank with a single 6" fish in it. not sure he would find that very secure or even find food lol he only utilizes about a square foot in the 55G.

I have to say, there are numerous critters of all families, orders and classes that will not feel at home in a very large tank. I have a much more vast knowledge of snakes that this affects than fish, but it is a good "middle-ground debate" .....I agree some fish, especially as juveniles or intermediates are better off in a smaller to moderately sized tank, but the big question is "Which ones?"
It's one of those situations where "ignorance is bliss" . Now once you realize the size requirements of these fish and still choose to house them in "short" tanks, that's a different story....
