Buying a BMX bike- HELP!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think a GT is a good choice for a first bike. They are pretty bullet proof. If you want to start learning tricks though you will find they become pretty inadequate pretty fast. I finally got rid of mine a bought a WTP Beyond. Best bike i ever bought. only 26lbs STOCK

GT makes bikes sold at department stores all the way up to the high end stuff. It all depends on the model...

I like WTP light and good value for what you pay.

damn, when did good bikes get so expensive?!! i just looked around online at some bmx stuff and its crazy expensive compared to 15 years ago. wish i didnt chuck out a bunch of my old parts and a couple frames i had laying around for years now.

Bike prices are getting insane!

MTB is worse...its getting to the point where all the high end trail bikes complete start over $5k. And the part spec for lower stuff is staying the same while the price rises. Ridiculous...

it is ridiculous... figured since the boy is almost old enough to ride a bike then i might as well build myself something to ride along with him.

any good online stores for bmx parts?

sorry for the derail guys, this thread sparked my interest again to bikes. it was quite the passion for me back in the day.

I kinda want to get those wheels with just 5 big spokes....anyone know where I can pick them up?

Skyways?

You should have bought an oldschool redline or mongoose to rock them!! Then you'd be rad, like this guy

Cool bike tho, I miss my bmx every time I go past a skatepark, but I'm old and sensible and will stick to my mountain bike as my back is already damaged enough...

BTW, wear a helmet. I am still amazed at the number of kids on bmx's who don't wear helmets, especially when going big.

Even if you're not going big, a fall from even a small height onto concrete can do some massive damage. Heck the crash that stuffed my back was just flipping off backwards while manualling over a hump....

I hope. It is a bit heavy, hard to Bunny Hop. However, it is AWESOME for going around campus. Fun as hell!

You sound like my gf :irked:

I made the mistake of watching a BMX vid with her, and they had a bunch of crashes in it. Now she is looking for a cool helmet for me.

And yea, those are the wheels I am looking for. Know where I can pick them up? Either those, or the ones with the 3 spokes =)
