I’ve been eyeing the spot in my man cave where I currently have an old 30 gallon acrylic as a quarantine tank.
I’m thinking I could fit a 5 or 6 foot tank in that same area.

I’ve watched a combo kit on display from time to time in petsmart that includes the tank, glass lids, light, and a stand. The price marked on the display always varies but it’s not uncommon to see it as low as $500.
I want to say it’s a 180 but could be just a 120. Either way, every time I see that price I have to stop and look at it. It looks to be of good quality. I think it’s a Top Fin.

This got me wondering if it would be easier to just buy a stock tank and build the stand myself. This would be a breeze compared to the 300 stand I built a couple of years ago.

Where’s a good place to buy a new economical standard glass tank? I’ve searched around a little and didn’t see much info on them. It’s really aggravating when all your searching keeps directing you to amazon. The only brands I can think of are Top Fin and Marineland. What other brands are out there?

To my knowledge, petsmart doesn't sell a glass 180, could be the 5' 120 or 6' 125 often seen for sale. They usually only come as an ensemble set but very decently priced.

Economical is going to be an issue imo. Glass tanks seem to have followed the recent price trend that glass itself has. Most if not all tank manufacturers that make large tanks with thick glass have jacked up their prices significantly in the last year ime.

Petswarehouse seems to sell glass tanks at a competitive price point...sorting out delivery could be another issue. I know nothing of their reliability or reputation.

Honestly if it was me I'd go with glasscages or customaquariums. They've got great reputations for delivering quality products. But I think its safe to say that with delivery you're lookin at around $1500-2000 for a 150 to 180 from most anywhere.

I would check with any local fish stores. Most of them that I've been to can order tanks of those sizes, they just don't usually keep them in stock because they're expensive and they don't sell very often. Usually you can buy just the tank, and the LFS will handle shipping into their store. Then you can buy up and transfer to your house however you want.

If no independent LFS around you, you might try Petco or Petsmart or someplace like that. They may only offer combo kits, but it can't hurt to ask in the store. They may have pricing that they just don' advertise since they would prefer to sell a kit.

If all that fails, then you'll probably have to go with someone like Backfromthedead recommended, like glasscages.

I just looked back through the old posts and found one from 2019 that was discussing that Petsmart deal.

It was a 6’ 125 Aqueon. 18” deep and 24” tall. LED, glass tops, and stand.
I see it all the time for $500. I’m thinking that price should be coming back soon. It looks very nice in person.

It would be a nice upgrade from my 30 gallon for not a whole lot of money.

Does anyone have any experience with Aqueon tanks?

Jexnell Jexnell has a couple of them he's been using for years. I've seen several other members with that setup over the years. It usually goes on sale around the holidays. I've seen it as low as 400 for the set in recent times.

Usually those 125gal combos go for $749.99 around me. Occasionally they'll drop down to $649.99 or maybe $599.99, but I don't think I've ever seen the combo cheaper than that. If you can get it for $500 I'd go for. You can spend that much just on a 125gal tank around here.

I got mine a couple years back now. No issues at all. Excellent service when I went to pick it up, was already on carts ready to go. Got mine for $475.

It's now home for my big jerk Saggitae Casper

Petsmart generally has the best prices on Aqueon/ Top Fin for the 120 /125 gallon tank just because they buy so many of them. It you want something a nicer, look at Planet Aquariums, or Custom Aquariums. I have heard good things about scaquariums.com and Glass Cages, but I have not personal experience.

btw, I hear PetSmart is running tanks on sale for Black Friday, so you might want to check them out.

I took a gander at the petsmart black Friday ad...seems it's only small tanks 75g and under on sale this time.

Also worth noting though, petsmart sells clearforlife acrylic tanks on their website, sometimes at huge discounts as well. A few years back I got a hex tank for 65% off right around the holidays/black friday.

Ya, I’ve got a 90 gallon Clear-for-Life tank on the main floor of the house with a flowerhorn. He’s acts like the house “greeter”. He’s always happy to see everybody! LOL

I’ve been scanning the ads and all I’m finding is that 75 gallon at Petsmart also.
I can’t find any info on the 125 combo I’ve seen in the past. Bummer, that was a smoking deal.
