Buying Tanks From Craigslist!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if you buy a tank on craigslist like this, how do you go about resealing it. Even going WAY overboard to make sure this doesnt happen to you? how did you reseal it?

damn.. that suck!! craigslist is a cool place to look for used stuff but you can never tell if the person selling it is truthful or not.. I always test the tank before bring in the house.. lessons learn for real..

i took everything out i mean everything then i put water back in to see wear the water is leaking from,i find the leak then i cleaned out the old seal wear it was leaking from ,let it dry overnight so the new seal can stick to glass. Now i just have to wait 48 hours to see my results.

My bet would be that you stressed the silicone during the handling of the tank or the drive home. I wouldn't blame the seller.

Where was it leaking from?

front of the tank,i checked the whole tank everything looks great but just that small area i hope this works, i am picking up my 7 stripes frontosa's this weekend.....i am waiting to see

That is a bummer. It would make me angry too if I thought someone lied to me about a purchase. Leaks can happen during handling though. I just moved into a new apartment this week and had to move 5 big tanks. When I set up my 55 it had sprung a leak. I have moved tanks around a lot, and know how to handle them, but accidents happen.

I had a 55 set up for 4 years with no leaks. The stand started to go as MDF fiber board is a bad idea for tank stands. I took all the rocks, coral and fish out. Got a new stand and put the tank on it. Damn thing started leaking so out I go to get a new tank. 4 years later I move into an apartment from NY to MA. I have the new tank moved form NY to MA and no leaks. So same exact conditions. One tank leaks by being moved 5 feet, next tank, same time, same size, same mfg. goes without problem form NY to MA. Oh and the same two people helped me both times. I used to work for a Aqm service company and he said the same thing. If you move a glass tank that's been set up for a long time you can never tell if it will leak.

I would not be so quick to blame the seller.
