That is a bummer. It would make me angry too if I thought someone lied to me about a purchase. Leaks can happen during handling though. I just moved into a new apartment this week and had to move 5 big tanks. When I set up my 55 it had sprung a leak. I have moved tanks around a lot, and know how to handle them, but accidents happen.
accidents do happen but, i know this guy new i asked him "dose it leak" he said no, but "i had to fix this small area" funny thing is it was that exact area that was leaking,,,, i even called him just let him know how i feel about him selling me a tank that is leaking, guess what he wont even call back....anyway i will try to fix it....but i know 100% it was not my fault.

I've heard to many horror storys of tanks leaking after being moved if they are older so every used tank I have recieved (purchased or been given) I have re-sealed before bringing in the house from a 5g to a 250G I figure its piece of mind and fresh silicone makes me feel better. I haven't had 1 leak yet so imo its been worth it.

i agree with bass and pharaoh about test filling anything used. that's a whole ass load of water on the floor, sucks bro. bye bye carpet and padding...

i got lucky bro!!! all my tanks are in my car-garage, trust my my wife would died if this would happen in my house :D

Lets face it, if you buy a used tank, the possibility of problems is always there.

If you aren't willing to accept that then you should buy new only. Let the buyer beware. Resealing isn't that hard, and for the price you paid that was a decent deal.

Should the seller have disclosed the fact that it leaked? Probably. Craigslist sellers aren't dealers however, and you enter the transaction knowing there is no recourse if there are issues.

Like buying a new tank guarentees against leakage.:ROFL:There are plenty of threads that have been posted regarding new tanks leaking.

Seem like the seller did disclose the problem. The tank may not leak when he was using it, but when it's empty and moved, anything could happen. One thing I don't like about glass tank is once water touch the silicone, and you empty the tank, let it dry, there's a chance of shrinkage happen. Isn't that the reason why LFS won't let you return the tank once it's filled?
