CA "rocky shores" community update log

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ancistrus chagresi and ancistrus centrolepis are from Panama.
Right, I knew I read that somewhere. Great info in your posts here, I will be on the lookout for these fish!
Also like to add Jeff Rapps used to get some rare CA fish in the past. Livebarers, catfish and tetras. Now it seems he’s more focused on SA fish, which I’m wondering if it’s because it is hard to collect and import.

Here is the panamensis pair's new apartment:

Hoping the romantic solitude gets them going.

Also added some fake plants to the 80... tried real floating ones for a while and they became a mess. Fake not usually my thing but I kind of like these in here.

Hadn't seen my Ameca splendens ever give birth, then came home from work today and found the female I had moved into the "apartment" had two babies sticking out of her. I think something must have gone wrong, I counted 7 babies in the tank, all dead unfortunately. I pulled these two out of her and the female is ok. As you can see in the pic, these babies were seriously big... larger than 1/2 inch for sure. They also had small umbilical cords attached.

RIP little guys

Won't be long now then.
I envy your fish. Feel like I need some romantic seclusion since my daughter came into the world.

I've known livebearers do this before straight after a move .
I think it's the stress of being caught makes them drop early.
If your livebearers are holding babies for too long, placing them in darkness can help make them drop young.
