So I unfortunately have to kill my 55g cichlid tank project due to the fact that my dad will not let me set up the 55g .

Ya, I hate it when I get told "No," for wanting to use something that just collects dust for now; I even have the space to set it up, too. Funny how it's "no" to setting up the 55g I already have, but it was a "yes" when a few years ago I wanted a 40' x 80' pond for natives and fishing lol.

It does suck.

I get a no to setting up a 4 tank rack, but I am allowed to have a 10'x4' providing I can pay for it

i know what u mean my mom doesn't let me have anything bigger than a 55 right now and i hate it.
