Actually, yes, I do like the gold nugget pleco. I have, however, had bad experiences with plecos and cichlids. I've got one in my african tank now minus the eyes. They were eaten out about 4 months ago. It's the third pleco in that tank. The first two were murdered. I kept buying larger ones thinking that would help. I ended up removing the murderer, a female Kenyi, and the blind pleco seems none the worse for wear.

As far as this new tank (the 190), will the pleco be able to survive with 5 or 6 violent CA cichlids (the ones from my proposed stocking list)? That's really the only reason I've been looking at cats. I actually like plecos more. They are one of my favorites.

Im gonna get flamed, but WTF...

You CAN do all species of Parachromis,(minus the Dovii) as long as they were raised together. I have seen it done and have done it myself. I currently have a 220 (6' x 24" x 30") with:

2x-Motas (Red Tigers)
1x-Jag
2x-Loiselle
2x-Cubans
2x-Carpinte (Escondido)
1x-Grammode
1x-Salvini
3x-M-Cons

With Sliver Dollars for Dithers, 1x-Butterfly Pleco, 1x-Leopard Pleco, 1x Albino Bristlenose, 1x-Red Striped Raphael, and 2x-Botia berdmorei.

Look to Repairs 265 for guideance, he has helped me many time over the past years and has the tank to prove it. Barred Midas, Uro, Jags, Midas of all sorts, Red Devils, Vieja... etc... it is a thing of beauty:

My 125 was also what many would call "Overstocked"

1x-Jag
1x-Mota
1x-Uro
1x-Carpinte
1x-HRP Male
3x-Con Male
1x-Red Devil

with 1x-Pictus Cat, 1x-Rubberlip Pleco, & 1x-Albino Bristlenose

It can be done, filter the fudge out of it (I have a 10x turnover) or be prepared to do a wet-dry or Drip....

Ill be honest, Im selling all of my canisters and having Repair and Rally install a wet-dry to run my 220 and 150 side by side. It can be done.

Thanks for that link. That is an awesome tank. I love a properly maintained overstocked tank.:D

I've got a 36" long x 15" wide x 16" tall wet/dry sump (37 gallons) for this 190. I still haven't picked out a pump yet, the sump is plumbed for an inline. The tank is drilled with a built in overflow box. I'd like to shoot for 10x turnover. I also have an Emperor 400, an Emperor 280, and 2 300gph Penguin 1140 powerheads with filters for more turnover (if I need them).

I'd like to add some more fish to my proposed stocking list. Right now, I'm at 5 big cichlids and a still as of yet undecided cat(s). How many do you think I can get away with responsibly?

Well since you have a JD and a GT, and you want some aggressive, get the aggro fishes smaller, My Jack was 8" when he was in my 125 and he ruled,
The Jag was 2" smaller, the Mota was 2.5" smaller, The Uro was 3" smaller, yeah they will catch up, but the heriarchy was in place for over a year without issue. I would highly suggest Male Cons for Dithers, they look good, they keep the peace and a group of 3 on a tank have room to spread, mine have the tank divided in thirds. As for a Cat my Red Striped Raph does a excellent job of cleaning (altho you may never see him), I would also think about a Pimelodus ornatus would work well. My pims have always worked with the aggro cichlids, be it CA or SA.
