somwhere
I was thinkin of adding an aro to my list of aggresive cichlids. So far the list is a jag, RD, maybe a flowerhorn in a 135. I wanted to add an aro till untill it grows out of the tank. I thought the aro could just glide acorss the top. So any opinions?? I was thinking a school of 10+ tigerbarbs would divert any agression. I also have plenty of caves and hiding places at the bottem for the cichlids. Ive posted this in the cichlid part of the forum but I was wondering what you guys thought.

Thanks

I wouldnt try it unless the aro was much bigger than the cichlids. Aros are pretty timid when they are smaller, and they are fragile too. Once they get bigger they dont really care whats going on. It could work, but you'd have to be very careful

naturally, I was thinking along the lines of a 9-10in aro with 4-5in cichlids.

the tigerbarbs might become lunch for the aro and the cichlids. my aro has been with 2 clown loaches for months and just this weekend he tried to eat them. hes at about 14" now

IMO that would be risky. Even at that size they may see the arowana as a target. Of course they could be best friends. The only thing that I can suggest is to try it.

and give me the fish if it doesnt work:)

I've got my aro in with a JD, Jag, Pollini and a couple bichirs and they all seem to get along fine.....mine is a 150 so its a bit taller the cichlids stay at the bottom and the aro stays up top......only time they really come together is feeding which they are all at the top.......when i first added him they were trying to see what he was and bent up one of his barbells but seems to be fine since then

I put a silver (10") in my 150 tank with my bichir (8"), Geo's (3"), GT (5") and a couple africans (3"). My GT saw the aro as the fish to pick on. My aro didnt last in that tank. I had to give him away. The GT is cool with everyone else.

Im hoping if I introduce the aro first and a couple hours later put the cichlids in then I might be able to avoid some agression...maybe...

Anyone else with opinions?? Theres got to me more of you...

ig you want to add an aro, it'll have to be a lot bigger than the cichlids,
10 inch wouldn't be big enough, maybe a 20 inch aro will work,
i used to have a 20 inch arowana with a 5 inch argentea. and a pair of 8 inch pollenis.
think south american cichlids would be better tankmates,

right now i have a pair of green severums with my 8 inch red arowana, they used to be my 22 inch red arowanas tankmates :)
