and simon, thanks chiming in and helping!

Here are some growth rates, taken from crocodilian.com's excellent Paleosuchus Captive Care guide.

Growth rate:
3 mths: 30cm, 95g.
6 mths: 35cm, 150g.
12mths: 42cm, 250g.
2 yrs: 53cm, 570g.
4 yrs: 77cm, 4 kg.
8 yrs: 94cm, 3.6 kg.
12 yrs: 90cm, 6.1 kg. (I think this is for a female - so it is smaller).
20 yrs: 118cm, 11.5 kg.

Trigonatus are a bit bigger and faster...also more food and higher temps in captivity may increase growth rate. Mine is approximately three, and about 80-85 cm (30 inches)

thanks for that! i want a female. what is urs?

I've been told he's a male by the previous owner. He's rather unpleasant to handle, so I haven't tried probing him. If you don't have experience moving large, angry reptiles, find some to practice on before your caiman gets big. Much more difficult than a big lizard.

what kind is urs?
im not sure when ill get one. just gettin a design down as well as money together. gonna do this right. always been a dream to own a crocadillian and im goin to do this freakin right!! already people think we shouldnt have these and im not goin to reinforce thier opinion!!

kingsnake.com usually has some. any pics of ur enclosure?

hey guys i need some opinions on these panels before i pick up any guys!! i want to use some different ones of these for the build but i need to know if you guys think these would be good. i want my build to be energy efficient. i pay for my hobby from my second job so a ton of extra strain on my energy bill is not good. more strain means more money out. which means less money to expand my hobby!!

I think Simon has is covered for ya. I love caiman, and miss my old one.
Just plan ahead and you'll be fine.

Also, make sure to think of the area around your enclosure, not just the enclosure itself. Make sure you have room to work with the animal if you ever need to take it out/handle it or do work inside the area the caiman will be living. Think big access doors and things of that nature as well.

Good point. I had mine in a 220 for a year, and man was that hard to get into if you needed to move him (especially with my stubby arms).
