Q why do people want caiman as pets? I have 6 at work mainly yacares some lacostris plus hybrids of the two and they are the meanest little sobs ever. Can never trust one of these they are always evil.

No mean to derail but somebody explain why?

Well, in my case, I love prehistoric animals. Crocodilians are about as close to owning a dinosaur as you're going to get. Along with modern birds, crocodilians are the last surviving Archosaurs ("ruling reptiles").

To each his own, I don't understand people owning dangerous dogs...

I would love a caiman but i would need a licence and they are very expensive. I just love prehistoric stuff, thats why i keep large polypterus, snakes, scorpions and my dream pet would be a caiman.
I quitle like them partly for the reason you dont like them. I have a lot of admiration for such a small animal being so aggressive and fearless.

i agree with u!
anyway thanks zoodiver for ur help! still need some help about those led panels!! need to know if it would be worth it!!

anybody with the leds?
and has anybody used pond armor at all? need to know if it would be worth it!

I dunno about the LEDs...paleosuchus are nocturnal and don't like tons of light. Never used Pond Armor...I'd just uses a plastic tub/vat. Remember, dwarf caimans are burrowers...I dunno if the liner will be strong enough.

hmm. problem is this build is gonna be big! 10' by 15' and 4' tall(3' by 3' access door(thanks for the idea zoo). gotta figure out something. pond armour is expensive for the area i need. something like 300 bucks!! and the leds are still a maybe. i like them plus enegry efficint. hmmm.
anybody use pond armor on anything before?

I recommend buying adult caimans then lol, it'll take 10 years to grow one to the size that enclosure warrants.

true but id rather him have a ton of room to hopefully feel alittle more secure then have a smaller enclosure and have him hide constantly.
