I just finished setting up a sun-sun canister filter. Water will enter the intake and exit for a minute but then stop. It looks the water is leaving quicker then it is entering.

Does anyone know what could be wrong? I didn't cut the tubes yet so I think that all the curves and a slope up might be causing the problem. Or maybe I am suppose to start with one of the tubes filled with water and one empty or something similar which is causing problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

What media u hav in it? I had same problem other nite when I added polyfiber padding. The padding was too thick and not allowing water to circulate thru. My guess is media to tight somewhere in filter

also, both tube should b filled partially with water, if not, there isn't enough water in canister.

I agree. Either your media is packed too tight, your cansister and intake hose are not full of water or the excess slack in the line. Probably one of the first too tho.

I have had the problem before. I never cut the lines. I wrap them up so can use in another project. I figured out a solution for priming can filters. Take a w/d shop vac and put it on the exhaust side hose. It will fill everything and get any air out. Plus there is no mess. Heck you can do it with a completely dry filter. I did it with my FX5 after I moved.

Too much line or slack shouldn't matter, unless u running 20ft with a 15ft rise (not probable), so definitely either media too tight or priming problem

Thanks for all the responses. The canister is filled with water. I first filled it then added the media baskets so it overflowed a little.

I used the media which came with the filter, but I packed 2 filter cartrages on from a hang on back filter from the tank with the fish to seed the media. I remeber thinking that it is a tight squeeze to put them both in the Both in the top try but I wanted the bacteria to run over as many trys as possible so I stuffed tem both in try 1. I think this might be it I will remove the cartrages and try again

I know my grammar was a little off in that last post. That is because I just got a new phone and getting used to the keyboard.
