well, Thanks guys, when I talked to my Dad about it he said its going to be really hard unless we are billionaires and have money to spare. which we aren't :( but like aw3s0m3 said do you think I and try and do a permit for educational purposes? I actually want to learn about them? is there anything people want to know about them??

It's not that simple. You would need to bring the stingrays with you wherever you perform these "educational services." That means that you'll pretty much need an entirely separate system just for housing them wherever you take them unless you wanna break down your own aquarium and bring it with then set it up again and vice versa. This would surely be a pain for you and extremely stressful for the rays. Unless you own a pet store, I highly doubt fish and game will consider letting you hold education programs at your house. It doesn't hurt to try though.

Depending on the ray size, all you would need is a tote $5, small air pump $6, tank few hundred could do a 3'x3'x15" or so since it is just for a temp display and a $8 sponge. Have the sponge going in your sump all the time, tank in storage. Bring it to the show with you sponge from the sump. Fill tank with water from your tank system brought in 5gal buckets or just run o.r. water all around.
Make sure to label the tank with a "do not touch fish" and a "poisonous fish" then you can't get sued if little jimmy wants to touch it after being told no. It would be stressful for the ray to a degree. Not enough to kill it if done right and at the right size. So in total for the costs of equipment new you have maybe $500 into it depending on the tank. Most likely less. Plus cost of fish. Hell if it was the way I could get the fish I want I would do it.

if your part of a local church or by chance home school any children you might be able to get the educational permit without taking them anywhere since they could come to your house.

i had a similar issue with my state regarding native non venomous snakes wrote a letter to my congress man in my district about it and never heard anything i have since gave up on it and found a different way to still keep rays too and the snakes but i dont have any atm . i plan on buying some land in a nearby state and keeping them over there or starting a store there cause they are not many good fish stores in the area i live in especially ones that carry fw rays. found out i can legally have them in Alabama.

To get an education permit, you have to start by being a recognized educational institution. Even then, you probably won't be granted one.

Well to be fair, the stingrays in Florida are brackish water while we are talking about the family Potamotrygonidae- the true freshwater stingrays which is illegal in California and Florida I believe.

But there are other families of freshwater stingrays you can obtain legally....such as Atlantic Stingray and the Asian stingray...bad thing about these stingrays are that they're too large and difficult.

For whatever it's worth, there is no such thing as a FW Atlantic ray in the pet trade. It's all a marketing ploy to sell rays and make money.

All of you guys in states with bans on FW rays, why not do SW rays? There a lots of options and it's cheaper to do a basic SW ray set up than to try and house adult FW rays.
