I love your female with that golden side doom. This is a great thread,

Probs a silly Q , but how are calicos and marbles produced.? I have only ever seen black(stripey) and pink (luesistic?) , so im guessing its a mixture of these two

Thanks her body is mostly covered in in that gold pink I love it.

From what I've read the calico gene is produced by a wild black male con and a pink or luesistic female. But this isn't a 100% fact witch is why I started this project to find the origin of the calico gene and possibly albino gene like crush's Casper.

I haven't seen it yet but my friend says he has a white with white bars too. It would be a cousin to this one because its from 2 of the 5 marbles I bought initially. If they are opposite sex I will go that route.

that would be awesome. maybe mating them two will create a new gene line.

Yeah it would be the easiest way to start the line... Fingers crossed. But I messed up saying it would be a cousin... It would actually still be bro and sis, just not from same parents. But I "think" we should be ok.

it should be good for a few generations. but i wouldnt keep them as a pair long

I was under the assumption that a zebra male and pink female produce all zebra fry, unless of course the zebra is het for pink.

Yes that's true. I haven't been able to find any rock solid evidence proving how the gene is produced. I think if if a het pink carries the calico gene it can be passed on and produce calico fry. The only real evidence I seem was from Ernie's hrp x calico pair witch produced "ice blue" or blue calicoes ( I forgot what Ernie named them) and crush light marbled x heavy marble calico pair that produce an all white convict with white bars. You never what what you can end up with mixing genes.

My Platinum HRPs looked almost exactly like those white-on-white convicts. I support the idea that that gene came from the Honduran Red Point, a Convict cousin.

Art I believe the gene comes from an convict x hrp most the males I seen look like they are crossed. The male you sent that didn't survive had strong hrp traits and do does my male now.
