My definition of a "true hobbiest" is that the person has been in the hobby for several years and know about how to maintain excellent water parameters so that their fishes can thrive and live a long time. In my opinon, it is not all about money. A person can spend $100 on one fish and the next year he is selling his whole set up and fishes and not heard from ever again. That is not a "true hobbiest" in my view.

Well said buddy.

A true hobbyist is someone who is dedicated, and does the best for there fish no matter what ,
a true hobbyist can be someone keeping 2 convicts in a 30 gallon but provide the best for them like waterchanges once a week and are always tryna buy the best foods for them , and make them happy, also i have only kept fish since october but i consider my self a tru hobbyist since i grew mentally and learned alot about fish keeping and i can give advice if asked

If someone raises cichlids just to be feeders then is this considered whats best for the fishes to keep them alive and happy? Well this can go on and on...about whats a true hobbyist is, but the reason why my definition is what it is: Convict, Jack, Jag, owners are a dime a dozen like Toyota Corrola, Ford Focus, Honda Civic owners. But "True" car hobbyist would have Toyota MR2, Ford Mustang classics, Honda S2000.

Quote on Quote because its my opinion, but my reason is the very reason why Festae, Friedrichstahli, even Rays, etc., are extinct in Fresno and its surrounding counties. The only ones that will pay $50-100 for shipping or drive 4 hours to get rare fishes are "True". Still this is a GREY area, and never black and white.

And those who have not spent that kind of money, by all means I am not discrediting you as a "True" hobbyist

Okay enough quoting i think we all know in our head what is a "true" hobbiest is , but lets move the subject to other thing, this thread was created to be able to inform our discuss with other northern cali members with info, like does anybody know where i can buy a breeding pair of festae

anybody know were i can get festae 4 inches and up

Not sure but I;ve noticed all the festae around the bay seem to be 1"-2". I haven't seen/heard of any larger than that lately so I'd say just give it 2 or 3 months and there should be quite a few around.

who seen the cubans on cl today its $80 for a large pair , someone should get those
