Not running a uv, how many watts would I need for a tank this size? It's red flint sand. I rinsed it pretty good but pretty sure there is some residual.

When you chose a brand you like they will give you recommended watt per gph of flow from your pump

I set up a 540 4 months ago, new sand, new DW, same as you. Purigen took out the Tannins and I didn't boil it at all. The the water was cloudy, not bad but irritating. I just left it alone, 3 months later it's getting crisp and clear now.
My theory is new sand clouds water slightly no matter how much you rinse it. Just take time to filter it all out.

Yeah, I'm gonna leave it be for a few months and see where it goes. Then I'll decide UV or not. What kind of mech filtration are u using ragin?
