  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi,we were interested in adopting these fish until we found there is an adoption fee of Forty dollars per fish we were told. Now my best friend is a manager at a close by Petco and she told us that its totally against there policy to take money for a fish that has no scue number. They can only give the fish away.We don't mind saving fish and giving them good homes. We have done this many many times in our area but we have never been charged?seems someones making some extra cash.

Wait, a fee for the fish in this thread? You are correct, there is no fee for these fish. If you are being asked to pay anything its going straight into their pockets.

The Post does read FREE FISH??

I think someone saw the interest and felt the need to add on a handling fee..:irked:

Even if you want a fee at least tell the people up front.

woah woah woah, i also work at petco.

There should NOT be a fee for these fish, any fish without a SKU cannot be sold and therefore must be givin away. If there is an adoption fee for these animals, you should contact the District Manager or a higher authority. These fish are up for adoption because they need a home. Selling them is unethical and is against policy. My petco does not see its fair share of Monsters, so far in my 2 and 1/2 months working ive seen 3 larger plecos 8+ inches, the biggest at 13inches which ive taken for my pond, i love plecos. Our problem is space, Our biggest tank has koi in it, and is around 80 gallons so theres alot we cant take.

First of all, the fee was not technically a fee, but a donation for the fundraiser that we're running right now that spays and vaccinates homesless animals. I talked to my manager today and cleared it up. Anyone who is interested, give the store a call, I know he would rather them go to a good home. Im not hiding any information from anybody... I recieved the fish when there was no general manager, then next time I was in there was a sign that said it was 20$ per fish (not 40$), and today I finally talked to my Manager in person and it was a donation to the fundraiser. Like I said, call and talk to Ataul if your interested, hes the general manager.

I will try and get some pics up as soon as I can. I dont know what you think I would gain by tricking someone into coming to Petco to adopt a fish and it not being there. I gave the location of the store, if anyone has doubts, call the store and ask for yourself. I find it kind of saddening that Im trying to help some fish find good owners and people make it seem like its a scam or something. I just wanna get these 2 24" clown knifes out of the 100g tank and into an appropriate home.

Just for an update, the pacu and the JD were adopted, but now we have a 4'" convict and a school of four 7-9" bala sharks, along with the 2 clowns.
