Calling all TENECOR tank owner...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you didn't get it either :screwy::screwy: .......my point is that to me personally, a company that builds a 36" tall tank with 5/8" acrylic sheet, knowing that severe bowing will occur (can you see the picture at least , can you ?) regardless of what a (clueless) client demanded, is not someone I'm interested in giving my business to. No matter how cheap it was, standing in front of a tank that bows that much is nerve wracking.
And don't even get me started on tenecor's customer service (I agree with Clay 100%)....I dealt with them before and they are plain rude to say at least.

Does this happen a lot, people not getting your point? I bet thats because your smarter than everyone. :grinyes:

That alone would make me go to a different manufacture to buy a tank,it seems arrogant to presume that any other stand is not worthy to hold their tank.

Thanks for the suggestion vamptrev I checked out their site yesterday, will you give the name of the other tank manufacturer ?

I measured the bowed panels front and back with my digital calipers this morning and I was incorrect, the thickness is .700"-.709" depending on where I measure that is .075" thicker than 5/8" or .625" but still .050" thinner than 3/4" or .750" either way It should be at least 1/4" or .250" thicker than what it was made minimum.
On the bright side the bowing does give me some extra volume maybe I should call it a 363 instead of a 360:grinno:
Or you could call it a 360 bowfront :)

Stick with ATM in Las Vegas. They do the best work around on big tanks.

+1 I have seen ATMs work as well and their tanks have a really nice finish. I looked at a 14x3x5 (according to the seller, it was Dr. Dre's old tank) and the seems looked awesome. They build solid tanks.

having a 450gal in the living room right now, i have learned the crucial importance in having 100% confidence in your tank, and also being able to quickly identify any potential problems...i still check my seems every couple weeks just to be sure....

when it comes time to go 750-900, in the garage it goes......

I think the difference between the water damage from a 450 failing and a 750 or even a 900 is negligible. Maybe have to replace a few inches less of drywall, but in all cases would be catastrophic.

I hope you were not referring to me. I have not said any thing bad about tenecor. My tank was like this when I bought it used almost a year ago. there could be several reasons for the bowing, for instance the stand it was on when I went to look at it was Very lacking to say the least. I am amazed it was still standing and not on the floor. and it was in a garage with no climate control, no telling how hot it had gotten. I am in the same boat as Egon, Cheap is good ! and if nothing else there is way over the $400 I spent on this tank in acrylic to use on a future project.
If tenecor can fix it good and if not thats ok too I understand the warranty is only good to the original purchaser. Who knows I may set it on it's side, cut the top off and replace it with another viewing Panel. And why not, I have allready cut out the center overflow that alone should have voided the warenty even if I was the original owner of this tank. That would make it more usable for my app. but for the time being it is what it is, a huge tank.

Not so sure that setting that tank on it's side is an option. Since it's bowed out like that, it would likely put a lot of stress on the seams to fill it, since it would not sit flat.

In any case, if I were to go new I would buy from James at Envision Acrylics, ATM or Midwest Customs. They seem to take pride in their work. See some of the seams on my Tenecor 770G 10x3x4H - 1.25" thick. Not sure how to measure deflection, but if I hold a straight edge vertically against the tank, there is just over .5" gap between the tank and the straight edge at the top and bottom. I think it should have been made out of thicker acrylic. I bought it "used," although the original owner only filled it once to test fill it.

I understand some bubbles are normal and the spill off from the weld is tolerable since it is not on any of the viewing panels, but the job they did on the overflow towers is flat out sloppy. Look at those bubbles in the 3rd pic! I believe the overflow column is made out of .5" acrylic. They had to come back with .25" strips in order to make the overflow column water tight. Holy Crap !... What brand and did you buy it new ? You have to say something with the pics.

I'm pretty happy with my 260g Tenecor. There are some bubbles, but nothing that ever concerned me. The stand I ordered with it is very nice too.

That alone would make me go to a different manufacture to buy a tank,it seems arrogant to presume that any other stand is not worthy to hold their tank.

It's not arrogance. They use to give a lifetime warranty to the original owner if they just purchased the tank with no stand. They had a problem with tanks failing because of the poor home made stands that people were putting them on, so they had to add the purchase of their stand into the warranty.

Seems reasonable.

Even if one does purchase one of their stands, with one of their tanks, IMO their current warranty is very limited. It went from "lifetime", to 2 yrs, and then a 60%-80% drop in value, wholesale value at that. Considering the wholesale value of many of their larger tanks, for myself that just isn't acceptable. YMMV

If the aquarium is paired with a Tenecor stand purchased at the same time as the aquarium, defective standard aquariums will be repaired or replaced by Tenecor, at our option, during the first two years from the date of purchase at no additional cost to the purchaser. From year two to year four repair or replacement costs will be limited to 40% of the prevailing Tenecor wholesale price. From year four on, repair or replacement value will be limited to 20% of the prevailing Tenecor
wholesale price.
