Well I already have a beautiful girl...so that's covered. :)
I am quite a fan of steak....and low cost of living.
Friendly people are also a +.
Please let me know more!

I lived in Dallas for several years, and was actually back last week talking about a job change.

Cost of living is fairly low compared to other large cities in the US. Gas seems to be average or below. The nice thing I like about the DFW area is the road/highway plan. They actually think about it! So many big cities I've lived in or delt with have terrible road ways. Sure there will be traffic during rush out, but it's not the kind that makes you want to get out and hang yourself.

As for animal laws, they are tight about things that could be problematic for them (FW rays, large aggressive FW fish, etc...)

Study of Alligator gar is very specific for a career. I'd suggest going a little more broad range with what you are hoping to do. Are you hoping for a State/gov't job or something else?

I just want to research monster freshwater fish. I haven't looked to much I to state/government jobs. I'm not even sure what there is out there.

I'd start looking at jobs in a few areas. Wild fish research is a hard way to pay the bills... mostly because so many projects are funded by grants and the work is done by college kids doing it for free or credits.

if you decide to move to tx. i recommend austin, dallas or san antonio. much better weather than houston. when i lived in houston for a year. i didnt like it much. it was way to hot and humid. freeways were hard to navigate especially where freeways where you have to stop every so miles to pay unless you have the monthly pass. houses are way cheaper. so cost of living is cheap. gas was cheap. there is pretty bad traffic in the morning to work.

i wouldnt mind living in tx just not in houston.

I live in DFW, have most of my life. Laws are pretty strict on fish. I live on a lake that is only half a mile from the west fork of the trinity. We have 7'+ al. gars in our lake. Now for employment you would have a pretty short list. In grapevine they just built a SeaLife aquarium along with the other 5 or so public aquariums in the DFW area. San Antonio has SeaWorld, Houston has a few public aquariums also and access to the gulf(alot of biojobs are there rt now due to the oil"leak") there is also Texas parks and wildlife. Don't forget about the heat though. It hit 100+ temps in the spring this year. I want to get away from TX, but people are flooding here from all over. So to each their own.

Oh yea ditto on the houston. It is unbelievebly humid. The traffic sucks and the police suck even more. Everyone drives 90mph on the most screwed up highways. But you can find yourself in traffic all day. And high crime.

Alright thanks for the info. Do they have laws about Not keeping rtc and the like? Also what are the laws on reticulated pythons, ball pythons, and monitor lizards?
