Hi!! I'm in San Antonio and love it!!! it's super freaken hot, the mexican food is actually mexican food and not fake mexican food.. once you have it, you'll understand.. the people are really nicer here, I know I'm one of them.. I've lived here for four years but have always lived near by..there are about 4-5 lfs that I like, don't care much for the others because they consist more of the African species or SW.. overall it's a great city!
I was in Houston about 3 wks ago and wouldn't ever chose to live there.. and in saying this, I hope not to insult anyone.. but from what I saw it was a super dirty city.. and I was mostly around the Galleria area, supposedly the nicer side of town... just don't care much for it... but talk about tons of LFS and not bad ones either.. that I liked fo sho!!
I was recently in Austin too and it's really a artsy fartsy kind of city..it's a good thing, super clean though! It's actually really nice there..
and there's my city, kind of in between.. but more on the cleaner side.. traffic here has gotten much better in the last few years.. so that's a +, gas prices are between $3.25-$3.50ish.. and around the area I live.. the homes on average are not over $150K, older neighborhood but still decent.. and on the new side of town which would be further north your looking at around $200K-$250K.. that's just major ball park figures..
as far as jobs go, we have the San Antonio Zoo & Sea World.. I'm sure there's more but I'm sleepy and don't want to think much...
Something to check out maybe..

The Edwards Aquifer provides San Antonio with our water supply, don't know if you could find any employment opportunities there it don't hurt to try...
Umm that's all I've got right now.. GL buddy!
