Calling All you Severum Fans.................

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a pair of Orinoco severus. They are slightly different from the Atabapos. My pair is relatively small but they've already been spawning for a while. I really like them a lot.

Hey there ryan, I have been surfing the web, severum style. You and Craig uk seem to be real severum heads like me. I have had Uaru, smiling acara's with my sev's, but geo's are my next project. Sand is a must for those guys.

Hey your orinoco's they have red lines/streaks across the body right.

^ Yes, it's a rotkeil. It has 8 vertical bars rather than the common 9 on efasciatus, and also is beginning to show the red behind the gill and on the chest. This should continue to develop as it ages.

That's good news! Cause when I bought them, there was no red in them whatsoever. Three of them are growing nicely, but one seems to fall behind in growth. Are the bars always perfect or does it sometimes happen that a bar can be incomplete? Because on this side all eight bars are complete but on the other side there is one incomplete bar (incomplete as in not stretching entirely from the stomach to the top)...

Occasionally you find severums and discus with broken or fused (Y shaped) bars. Some people don't like it and cull for it in their fry, others don't mind it. It won't have any adverse affect on your fish and is purely aesthetic.

I'm resurrecting this thread as it's just pure awesome. Gotta love Sevs - grow large but not huge so don't need massive tanks. Can hang with some Centrals but also do well with smaller South Americans and last but not least they come in a variety of colors!

My addition to this thread is my little Heros efasciatus ‘Rio Maica’ from Rapps.
