What causes the blood in the fins?

I think it is a combination of stress and body injury caused by the fall and bouncing around on the floor but I am really not sure.

I meant to mention in my previous reply that most times that I have seen blood in a fish's fins like that the fish usually died a short time later.

Lack of oxygen for prolonged periods I think, never a good sign.

Sorry for the loss. I’d say the stress probably took more of a toll than the actual physical damage. Black ears are hard to keep from what I read.

Mine is a slow grower too, 1.5' after 3 years. I think we get refuse from the farming culls.
