170 gallons.....
The sock helps in three ways. One, I have a Huge pump going on this bad boy and it will help lighten the load of what goes into the tank (also have the butterfly valves to help). Two, It will help filter out very fine waste that the filter pads and bubble trap dont pick up. Three, I have lot's of room in this sump to play around with(72x24x22), so I'm trying to experiment with new things...
I'm good on bio filtration. I just want to make sure I'm good with the mechanical.
I'm sure it would probably be better to put the sock before the pump rather than after. That way its screening out 100% of the water going through the sump instead of the fraction I make it after the pump, with the ball valve. But I could use the pressure relief. So it is going as it is.
Hope that makes sense..
And remember, this is a rough sketch.....
Y'all know what I mean when I say sock? it's made for fish tanks. Usually used in salt setups.

One problem is, they do such a good job they get clogged easily and overflow out the top. But since It will be inside the sump, I'll be good to go.
Here's a pick of a couple in action. NOt sure of what brand, but filter sock is filter sock.
Aside from what micron it is....
