Can a fish knock itself out?

Saw my oscar chasing a smaller fish around and he slammed right into the driftwood and was swimming sideways for awhile but he ended up being alright.

My old pink tail chalceus got spooked a few days after I moved to my new house, came home to find him paralysed on the floor but otherwise not a single scratch.

My theory is that he either knocked himself out from the impact or broke his back. after a few minutes he wasn't breathing, I tried everything to bring him back from methods I have read on here and he was gone. Its a shame he was a really nice chunky one around 8"

I had a Chalceus brain itself on the Mag-Float while I was cleaning the glass. Unfortunately he never woke up....

when i had my red hooks 2 of them there chasing each other and then one went into the glass as if the tank and another 10 feet of room. the red hook was out cold laying on the bottom and them after about 1 min. came to and was very normal.

I had my bowfin crash into the side of my 180. It was upside down floating for several mins. Just as I was about to scoop it out it popped back to life. It took several hours to regain proper balance but it made it.
