Finally found a kijiji buy to upgrade my pleco into (yay!), and I thought a piranha for the 55 left behind would just be the coolest thing ever. I'm open for pretty much any P other than wimple, who I can't find and look kinda wimpy anyways.

Cheers,
L021.

exodons, and a elong i don't know any others that would work

Exodons, Elong, Sanchezi, Maybe a solo pygo or gold piranha, possibly 3 Rbps at the most because ~20 gallons per fish.

What are the stats for Red Bellies? Google is useless, having given me a minimum tank size of 55, 75, 300 and 29. Having a single specimen or pair of those would be awesome, but would it be bad for the fish?

single would be better than 2. generally with two, one will dominate the other.

Could I keep one single in a 55?

I don't know of any reason not to. You could also do some of the other solitary P's that others have mentioned. I have a sanchezi in a 55g

pygos do better on shoal and 55g is some what small for a shoal larger than 3-4. mainly due to the narrow width of the tank at only 12".
if you plan on putting just one piranha in 55g then you can look into elong, sanchezi, mac, spilo.
www.opefe.com is one of the best source for piranha info
www.piranha-info.com is not bad if you don't need info as in depth as opefe.

get an elong or a mac. very nice fish!

Opefe says the solo P. natteiri can work, Piranha-info says it can't.:cry::irked:
