Can anyone compare the FX5 to the eheim 2262?

Not a problem. Thanks for the help buddy. I am gonna be hitting you up for some info soon when I install the two FX5's hopefully sooner than later. I just gotta get my solar panels installed. I got the GFCI all setup and dedicated circuits its gonna be a trick setup 80 Amps max among two circuits 4 duplex recepticles all GFCI and I got some panels I am putting on the roof that will hopefully negate an addition on the power bill. And maybe allow me to run my AC in the summer that would be cool.

I am loving the solar idea. PM me some pics and info. I have been wanting to go this route as well. Did some research but the initial cost seemed to great to be worthy.

I got the panels free with some wiring and other goodies because I did an AC job for a guy that had his home Repo'd he could not pay me so he hooked me up with four really nice panels. They are from premier power. Don't know how good they are yet they are not hooked up to my panel let alone set up yet. I do have a little gizmo from my indoor horticulture days that tells me the lumens on a digital readout at any certain point it will help greatly in the panels placement.

i say a new thread is in order for the solar power.... i wanted to do it awhile ago but cost of it and the lack of funds is a hold back....

Oh you know it. I gotta get the tank and sump first. But there will be an update with the panels and their setup in this setup and filtration section for anyone else thinking about going solar.

BTW is the eheim 2262 really a classic any ways ? Its a brand new pump on an old filter is that it? I know the volume is excellent.

The Fx5 pump does not need all the extra power due to the highly efficient impeller used, where as the Eheim pump uses an impeller which is not as efficient which is one of the reasons why it needs more power to move the same amount of fluid.

Now that's interesting. Please post a close-up pic of the FX5 impeller. I can only find this pic online, which may or may not be what we're talking about. If it is, then that's pretty similar to the Eheim design

Nope, thats not it. I'll see if I can dig up a picture of it for ya.

That impeller is called an Open impeller.

edit.... here is a picture. I will see if I can find more. This is one I took a while back. Not the best quality.

Enclosed Impeller

If you do a search for Enclosed vs Open Impellers you will find a good amount of info. Most of it will be pretaining to metal impellers which wear out. Here is a little bit of info.

These pictures "Curly" placed on the piranha forum. I did some small editing to them but he gets the credit. I found it curious as to why my impeller is black and his and new impellers are white.
