View attachment 415170Synodontis Ocellifer

Scientific Name: Synodontis ocellerifer
Recommended Aquarium: 75+ Gallons
Approx. Adult Size: 8 inches
Temperament: Peaceful
Ease of Care: Easy
Diet: Omnivore
Native Waters: Africa - Senegal

First described by Boulenger in 1900. It is found in the Senegal and Chad regions of Africa. It can make a good scavenger for an African Cichlid aquarium, though it may not tolerate other Synodontis cats. A silver gray body with multiple small black dots and a forked tail, the Ocellifer will mostly be active at night or when food is added to the aquarium. It needs to be treated as a smooth skin catfish when treating for parasite infestations. It is not unusual to find this fish hovering “upside-down” inside of a cave since many Synodontis behave this way. Their diet should include meaty foods (blood worms) and some vegetable based sinking pellets. If properly maintained, the Ocellifer can live for many years.

Approximate arrival size for Arrival Size for Synodontis Multipunctatus: 1.5 to 3 inches; Large 4 to 5 inches In the pic it is hard to be certain.. but does yours have a forked tail... looks pure to me as long as it has forked tail..

RedDevlis fish has no spots on its head but ocelifer was my guess also.

i was going to say, mine is quite old... and also cannot rule out completly that there was some hybrid in it... and perhaps in Hopefloats.. they do inbreed these guys... but this is close as i can tell..i

It certainly looks quite close and behaves quite close to the description, I just PM'd Red Devil saying that the catfish was hanging upside down in an upright log :) So even if she's not a full ocellifer, she has more than a little bit of it in her, I would say.

1. Dorsal is too long to be ocellifer.

2. Adipose fin is too small to be ocellifer.

3. Body is too long and narrow to be ocellifer.

4. Caudal fin is spotted. Ocellifer is more striped.

Hybrid.
