Can anyone help with the sex of my Jack Dempseys??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The beard as well as the body... males will have blue spangling l over their body.. females will only have a bit and show more dark bars off and on over their body depending on mood... that's why I think the smaller one is female.. seems to have some faded bars on the body and not too much blue/green spangling

Big one is def a male.. I'd lean towards female for the other based on looks and what you're describing their Interactions like... but the pictures are a bit blurred and washed out so hard to tell for sure
Thank you for your input. Yes it’s hard for me to tell also even just looking at them because the blue on them period is no extravagant like I’ve seen on others. But I do notice my smaller one has a lot of blue spots around the mouth and the bottom lip is blue solid. And the way they are with each other the bigger one won’t leave the smaller one nor will he let any other fish around the smaller one. And this was instantly.

Think you’ve got yourself a pair. That worked out pretty good. Maybe you will end up with a tank full soon.
That would be quite the odds if so lol. None of the fish I have act like pairs except for those two. I guess we will see!!

Your absolutely right I didn’t notice that until you said that! The little one deff has darker bars and the black marks are more defined

Yup looks like a pair, if anything I'm not 100% sold smaller one is female, but could be.
Yeah they are being very very obvious now. They look like they are digging a hole together like a nest and starting to nip at each other’s parts
