Can anyone tell the gender of my vieja fish ( red spotted gutalattas)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
First of all, welcome to MFK!
Second, you have to vent the cichlid in order to find its gender

Welcome to the forum!
I don’t know Vieja too well, but with any cichlid you can’t go wrong with venting. duanes duanes will definitely be the authority on this.

Pretty fish. Vieja get big so it’s too early to know accurately from body shape & color. If you can catch the fish and get a clear picture of the vent we can help.
Vent basics are;
oo = male, with the 2nd hole being slightly triangulated.
oO = female
Let’s see some pics!

Oh really can we find it by seeing it's vent on this size

It’s worth a shot. Like I said, see if you can get a clear pic and post it here 👍🏼
I'm thankful for your respond dude , I'll try to take a clear shot of it's vent . Apart from that the black spots on its dorsal fins ... , I mean is that a concern of being a female dude

I know some CA cichlid females develop black markings into the dorsal fin. As for Vieja I am not certain of that characteristic mate.
Any Vieja experts in the community know the answer to this question?
Let’s see those crisp clear vent pics :popcorn:

Bruh I catched the fish but the view is not clear on its vent , nothing is noticable. But I had seen a very small pointed needle close to the below fin ,is this helpful to make a guess
