can aquarium shops still be profitable?

hey metal slug i live like bolcks away and if your interested i can help you run the place???

i think it is hard for the lfs to match equipment prices do volume. but can offer great service and quality livestock.so i dont see much reason to stock the equipment, just more overhead sitting there. stick to live stock thats in demand with a favorable profit margin, and unuasual stock that will draw in the more dedicated hobbyist. smaller store is less overhead, turning product is the only way to survive, and you will be a fish store not a walmart thats got a little of everything but nothing great.

we have a fish store in our farmers market. the place is barley bigger then my walk in closet. but they sell fish, thats it. and you usually got to wait to get in becouse they are busy.

I meet with the SBA tomorrow. I will talk this over with them. I have been in business management all my carreer in hospitality and healthcare. I have alot of ideas on how to market and promote the place. I would love to have one more on board with alot of knowledge especially with saltwater. I have one other guy who has vast experience in running his own shop, and has lots of contacts. I would also try and stock rays, and other interesting oddballs I can find. I want to make it a good place, and fun place. I just wish the owners would let me a peek at the books so i know at the very least i can pay rent and electric.

Well hot damn...jackpot...llol. I really want to make this a success, dont get me wrong, i dont want to be rich, just pay rent and a few hundred bucks to play with...lol. But i also want to provide something unique in a sense. I will PM you as soon as I gather all my thoughts on what I really need.

Its VERY profitable, I got a stack of paperwork (all around the world) of vendor's pricelist! Its AMAZING on how cheap your average fish cost!!

An example (from a local wholesaler quote)

A bag of 1000 neon tetra cost $60, thats $17 cents each :D and the store can sell as low as $1 each...

Those paroon / emperor shark, they are worth like $0.70 cents to $1.00 each and I seen store sell them for like $10-20

They make LOADS!!! :D
