Can Driftwood????

Lizardfishman,

Did you get that dwood at a LFS? You may want to take it out and scrub it. I had a lot of hair algae at one point and I took the dwood out in the sun and then gave it a good scrubbing with table salt and gave it a good rinse before I put back in the tank. And yes a lot of dwood floats at first. Just weight it down with some rocks until it sinks on its own.

is hair algae white? if so then it is what i have.

It can happen if you get some newly bought bogwood yes ! thats why when you buy it most LFS tel you to rinse it well befor placing it in your tank !

But yes it can sometimes cause your tank water to get cloudy. :)

Just make sure you rinse well befor placing it in and if it's still cloudy give it a couple of days with a good filter it should all clear up !
yes i agree

if my computer wasnt malfunctioning at the moment i would post some pics of what my driftwood did to my tank in 1 day. i'm probably gunna take it out and let it soak in my bath tub for a few days.

Hair algae is green. Its long string/hairlike and annoying as all hell to eliminate. Your white stuff sounds like something is leaching from the wood. I'll see about posting some pics of my tank with the driftwood Thursday. Happy Thanksgiving fellow MFKers!!
