As much as I understand the whole "Hard times" thing. It's just a thought this guy had. And yes People treat Pets as their kids. I know i do- we even have a word for it its called "Fids" Finned/Feathered or furry Kid) If you think fish are just fish then your wrong, many fish have been studied and are able to feel pain, and can think- unlike the "goldfish 3 second thoughts"- back in the day..lol

It can be done but, not under standard aquarium conditions. Most of the chemicals used in aquaria maintenance are not FDA approved for species used for human consumption. I've raised tropical species with the intention of sampling them. Their systems used additives approved in the use with fish destined for human consumption and incorporated filtration systems that polished their water (pre-wash slime filter, air-injected bead filter, and diatomaceous water polisher). Copper-based chemicals, malachite, formulin, or other chemicals (many are linked to causing cancers) were never used in these setups.
As to their taste. I never like to use analogies such as "tastes like chicken" or "reminiscent of trout". They tasted like an oscar, or a pacu, or a piranha, or an arowana. To describe them as anything else would detract from the unique experience each one was.
BTW, if you do so elect to try them, there are countless recipes from their native countries available on the internet. Although, you may first have to research their local native names instead of their pet-fish industry names.

I for one believe that my fish can sense how I feel about them. Imagine what these fish are thinking with the vibe you are now sending them. "I LOVE YOU SO MUCH I JUST CAN'T BEAR TO GIVE YOU AWAY TO A PERSON WITH A TANK BIG ENOUGH FOR YOU. I LOVE YOU GUY'S SO MUCH, THAT I TENDERLY RAISED YOU FROM FRY! BUT DAMNED IF I AIN'T GOT A HANKERING TO FRY YOU UP AND EAT YOU!"

you do not treat your fish like kids because you wouldnt keep your kids trapped in a cage that is 1000's of times smaller than their natural habitat/environment
that is why i say pets are not kids, especially fish. we treat fish pretty poorly, along with dogs and cats we leave at home along all day when at work... all i am saying is this is not how you treat children (at least a real parent), and i dont think theres much of an argument against that. just because i have an aquarium and i take care of it, i still feel every single one of my fish would have a better life it were wild and not trapped
. even if that meant my fish did not live as long, a natural habitat is always best.so basically, no one treats their pets as a kid, and if you do, your pet is spoiled!

If your willing to take the risk of eating the toxins then I say go for it. People raise fish for consumption all the time. Yours were just raised in an aquarium instead of a pond or stock tank. I've never thought about eating any of my fish but I supposed, hypothetically, if I grew out a fish that I just really didn't like and had no connection to or had a fish that recently passed, I might try the fruits of my labor.
When people compare their fish or dogs or any other pet to children it always makes me cringe. I understand that you care about your pets but they're animals. Just like the burger you swallow down. If he doesn't have a strong enough attachment to his fish than who cares if he eats them? They're probably miserable from being in that overstocked aquarium anyway.
