Can i feed poultry to aro and dat???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The bad thing is all my fish won't take pellet. They rather eat meat and shrimp than take pellet. They would kill each other first before eating pellet, that is why i asked about poultry. My aro is 2', my 3 dat are 14" each. They eat like crazy. One block of shrimp about $15.50 about 160 shrimps. On average, my aro can consumed 7-10 shrimps, each dat took 4-5 shrimps = each meal minimum 20 shrimps ==> $15.50 every 8 days. Grounded up the bill for a year would be close to $700. Plus i recently notice, in order for the dat to grow even bigger than 14", you need to power feed them at this size otherwise they will not growth at all.

i would say you are under feeding your aro:grinno:...i feed my fish every day to 2 days at the most...i know of an aro that was 6yrs old and over 2.5' atleast that ate 2.5 bags of food sticks every 2 days and it was a beast...
I don't think so, I feed it until it stops eating. Like I said, it probably just depends on the feeding schedule that the aro is used to, because mine gets full fairly quickly, but I have seen feeding vids in which aros that are about the same size as mine eat multiple times as much food as mine could ever eat.

To the OP: sorry for getting off topic. To answer the original question: I agree with sbuse, I think poultry should be fine for your fish.

the only thing i have to say about the bird flesh is make sure it is bone free as they have sharp bones...

sorry thought it would be a good idea- project i only spent 20 bucks by buyin a 10 g internal filter and 2 fish from petsmart

I'd say cut up chicken breast meat would be fine for an adult aro.

Scott, you are the main contributor to derailing the thread...:nilly:

OP: chicken fillets are fine for your aro although i wouldn't use it as a staple. i've been feeding it to my jar for almost two years now and it's been fine. and people in asia feeds their asians frogs all the time and frog and chicken meat are of the same type.

it's always a good idea to let mature aro's a little hungry than completely full. and it is not for cost-cutting.

To the OP, chicken or even beef is fine on occasion. Best bet is to feed a varied diet and not rely on a single menu item. Pellets are a good staple, if your aro won't eat them you can always stuff in shrimp or fillets.

and for the rest of ya :lipsseale

I purchase catfish nuggets and smelt....inexpensive for large fish...

I'll also stick pellets like massivore in the smelt ..

I agree with Bderick........stay away from the chicken since it can deteriorate water quality and contains fat. I would feed market shrimp instead.
