Hate to break to it you, but since you tank is more or less the same size as mine, i think there is pretty much only one species of ray that might be able to live in there for life, although it will still be a bit of a squeeze...

Now i'm not sure which one it was exactly since it was a while ago when i researched them, but i think it might have been the Potamotrygon motoro ray that might work, although it will definitely still be a tight fit since they get up to 2' in length if i remember correctly...

Most ray keepers tend to go with tanks that have a space of 3' from front to back in order to house most ray species...

Not bursting anny bubbles herean i was jw cause i figured its a new challenge. If u can remember let me know... I know nothing about rays so idk what to look for

Hey, thier are a few of the smallers rays you could have (filteration is also a key)... if I'm not mistaken the hystrix as well a retic could live in thier. But you should check out the sting ray profilies in the stickies...tells you all the species and tank sizes..

hope that helps

Lots of people house rays in a 6x2 footprint. They are extremely dirty and need to be fed up to 5 times a day to keep them looking solid. I've had at least a dozen over the years and learned a lot about them. I personally do not have the time to care for them with 29 tanks running in my house. They def. need special attention on a daily basis and possibly a water change everyday if your filtration is not up to par. You should start with a regular Motoro ray. Don't think your better off with a hysterix or tea cup just because there smaller. They are very hard to keep for a beginner and your better off with motoros. My first ray was a 13" Motoro. I,d get an established ray rather than a pup to ensure they eat and are a bit hardy for your first experience. 2 rays can live in your footprint for a long time. I'm sure you've seen up to 6 in the same size tank but I'd stick to 2 or 1. When I kept more than one together they were always chewed on and knicked up. Best of luck hope my advice helps, rays are amazing to watch and will do well with a little extra care

Also sand or very very smooth pebble gravel for substrate. A lot of people go bare bottom but my rays were always more comfortable and stable with sand deep enough to hide in.

Ya i have sand and everything i was looking at the profiles. The only problem is that i have a bit.... A lot of driftwood lol in the tank. So idk if a ray is right cause idk how i could change the setup so they can have the space hey need. Also i have a royal that is pretty grumpy especially when he smells food or somone gets in his area. When i drop an algae wafer in for my common pleco he like headbuts him off the wafer.. Then he cant find it with his big head lol so idk if they would do ok. Or do youguys have other opinions... I didnt think about all the restrictions when i asked this ? Lol. Have u guys had rays with plecos... And what if the actual footprint is not as big as the tank

Glad i was proven wrong... so maybe in there is a ray in my future somewhere too...

But to the OP, good luck if you decide to get a ray, and keep us updated, since i would love to see how a ray would do in a tank that size...
