id be more worried about the rays eyes getting eaten.... personally i would ditch one or the other.... there are lots of other bottom dwellers you could get...
I have always had plecos, but I love the rays. I have plecos with my oscars and they don't get picked at. If there is any problems I would remove the oscar.

only need a 1" or less of sand.... i would add a fx5 or similar for better mechanical filtration... use the 70 gallon as a submerged media sump....

I disagree with the fx5 suggestion..the sand is going to mess the impeller up. Then what you've got is a noisy fx5.

that ray is way bigger then 10''

has anyone here had rays and oscars together with success?

I haven't have any personal experience keeping cichlids other than geophagus with rays but I've seen pictures with rays with pike and jaguars. I also had a pbass with a ray twice. the first time the ray started eating the pbass. The second time the pbass picked at the rays eyes.
hope that helps.

i have 3 oscars with 2 motoro's, but it's only been about a month and i plan to ditch the oscars soon. the oscars pay no attn to the rays and vise versa, but i wouldnt call it a sucess because of the short time theyve been together and the fact that im going through massive amounts of food just to get the rays fed, and massive amounts of water to keep the tank in check.

can it be done? depends on the individual fish's temperments, but even if it works for a month, year, etc.. there's no guarantee and i would expect bad things in the future.

so your ditching the oscars because of the bio-load and food you feed?
